Study Support

If you have a condition or illness which is long-term and affects your studies, or if you needed additional support during previous studies, you should contact Disability Services and we can discuss your circumstances and advise you accordingly.

Personal and Social Care Support

We know that moving away from your home country can be a huge change and that it is not always easy to think of things you might need support with in Leeds. Friends and family members provide a lot of support informally and it is important to remember that you may not have the same network in Leeds.

Things that would be helpful to consider are:

  • Do you ever go shopping by yourself?
  • Do you ever go to medical appointments by yourself?
  • Can you cook a meal by yourself?
  • Do you clean any areas of the house by yourself?
  • Do you ever wash your own clothes?

If the answer to any of the above is “no”, we would recommend taking some time to think about:

  1. Have you not yet learned how to do these tasks?
  2. Are they more difficult for you because of a condition or illness?

If it is because of a condition / illness then please contact Disability Services as soon as possible.

We can provide you with information on the process for setting up personal / social care support in Leeds. It is important to note this is not something the University provides and there will be costs involved.

Accommodation

Have you thought about your accommodation for whilst you at studying at Leeds? If you are interested in University accommodation contact the University Accommodation Office as soon as possible so they can try and allocate you accommodation which suits your needs.

Adapted accommodation is limited, and the Accommodation Office have their own processes and deadlines.

Even if you are not certain that you will be attending Leeds yet, it is still advisable to speak to the Accommodation Office about your accommodation requirements. Find out more about university adapted accommodation.

If you are looking at private accommodation, Leeds University Union’s Help and Support Team have some helpful househunting guides.:

Registering with a GP

It’s important to be able to speak to a local doctor in case you are ill or need to access prescription medication during your time at university. After you arrive, register with a local GP surgery as soon as possible.
